Hey there, lovely people! Today, I want to share a review of a long-time companion of mine the Gucci Soho Disco Bag.
If you’re in the market for a classic and timeless bag, or if vintage bags tickle your fancy, then you definitely don’t want to miss this review.
About The Gucci Soho Disco Bag
When Was The Gucci Soho Disco Bag Made?
This bag hit the scene back in 2012 and quickly became one of Gucci’s hottest bags. It comes in a bunch of colors like black, beige, and red. Even celebs couldn’t resist – I remember seeing them rocking this bag all the time back then.
Who Designed The Gucci Soho Crossbody Bag?
Frida Giannini, who became Gucci’s creative director in 2006, is the brain behind the Soho Disco bag. It’s this crossbody camera-style bag made of pebbled calfskin leather, and it’s got those iconic double Gs stamped on it.
Is Gucci Soho Disco Bag Discontinued?
Sadly yes, the Gucci Soho Disco bag is no longer in production. Even though it was a hit since its debut in 2012, you won’t find it on Gucci’s website or in their stores anymore.
But, because it was so well-loved, Gucci decided to give it a fresh look and relaunched it under the name “Blondie Bag.” (We’ll talk about this new bag in a bit and make some comparisons.)
Review of my Black Gucci Soho Bag
I’ve had my Gucci Soho Disco bag for what feels like forever (can’t really remember how many years, maybe six or even longer), and I can honestly say it’s one of the best designer bags I’ve ever bought. I’ll keep cherishing it for sure.
- The Soho is a small shoulder bag with the interlocking G logo embossed on it.
- It’s got a leather tassel on the zipper and a strap you can adjust.
- Inside, it’s lined with cotton linen and has two patch pockets.
The pebbled leather on this Soho Disco bag is super durable. Even after rocking it for several years, I haven’t spotted a scratch or flaw anywhere.
This bag is light and easy to carry, perfect for everyday use. It fits all my essentials without feeling too bulky.
What fits inside
The dimension of this Gucci Soho Crossbody Bag is 8″W x 6″H x 3″D.
At first glance, this bag might seem petite as a crossbody, but don’t let its size fool you. I was pleasantly surprised by how much stuff it can hold. When you unzip it, everything inside is easy to spot.
- A wallet
- A cardholder
- A few makeup necessities (recommend storing in a small pouch)
- A small hand sanitizer
- My sunglasses + case
- My phone
- My keys
If you’re planning to carry makeup with you, I’d suggest using a small pouch to keep them in. The lining of the Gucci Soho Disco bag is a light-colored fabric, so it can get dirty easily.
I’ve had my Black Gucci Soho Bag for years, and luckily, no stains have dared to make an appearance. Still, because of that, I’m always super cautious and hesitant about tossing just anything inside.
Pros Cons
Pros
- The Gucci Disco Soho Bag has a classic and timeless style.
- The bag actually fits a lot.
- It’s lightweight and comfortable to carry.
- The shoulder strap is adjustable, so you can wear it as a shoulder bag or as a crossbody.
Cons
- The soft leather might lose its shape (but proper storage can prevent this issue).
- The lining is made of light linen, which makes it more prone to showing dirt.
How to maintain?
The leather actually gets softer with each passing year, so if you store the Soho Disco Bag for an extended period without stuffing it, it can lose its shape, and the leather may sink in the middle.
To maintain its shape, I usually stuff mine with old clean white T-shirts. You can also use white cotton towels or acid-free tissue paper. I often reuse the tissue paper that some bags originally come stuffed with when I purchase them.
The tassel should be stored properly to prevent it from bending, so remember this if you’re storing the Gucci Soho Disco Bag for some time.
Also, remember to store your designer items in the dust bag that comes with the purchase.
Gucci Soho Disco Bag vs Gucci Blondie Bag
Now, let’s compare the original and “new Soho Discos” Blondie Bag.
The GG logo on the Gucci Disco Soho Bag is actually stitched more flush with the leather, while the new Blondie features an elevated GG logo that kind of pops out.
Another distinctive feature of the Blondie, compared to the Soho, is the diagonal stitching that runs all around the bag.

The Soho Disco Bag tends to lean towards a vintage style. The Blondie, although retains the core elements of the Soho, giving off a more modern vibe in my opinion.
The Blondie bag provides a broader selection of colors than the classic Soho Gucci Bag. So, if you’re looking for colors beyond the traditional ones to match your style and lifestyle, the Blondie offers more options.

Current Price (in the US) | $800 $1,600 (resale) | $1,790 |
Size | 8″W x 6″H x 3″D | 8.3″W x 6.1″H x 3.1″D |

Apart from the differences in appearance, both bags share similar dimensions, shoulder straps, and functionalities.
In comparison, I still prefer my Black Gucci Soho Bag. If I ever want a more eye-catching color in the future, I might consider purchasing a replica Blondie instead of an Replica Knockoff one (and if I do, I’ll also write a replica review).
If you don’t own either of them, I would recommend getting a preloved Soho in excellent or very good condition (for around a thousand dollars); it offers better value than buying a new Gucci Blondie.
I hate to say it but the new one looks like a fake Gucci bag.
I just purchased the soho disco (pre-loved) this year after having it on my wishlist since 2017. I really don’t like the logo on the new bag, as well as the price.
Why did I initially think the new bag was a Tory Burch…until I turned my head…lol.
I just got a used Soho in really good condition for a bit more than $800. Maybe could’ve gotten it for less, but it feels like I’m starting fresh with it.
$980 > $1200 > $1350 > $1390 > $1490 > Discontinued. I’ve been keeping an eye on the price jumps since I got mine back in 2017, haha.
My Soho Disco bag is my absolute favorite! I’m really liking some of the new colors they’ve come out with. But I can’t help but wonder why this one costs twice as much as the Disco bag!
The Soho Disco bag was really nice, and it never cost over a grand. I like Gucci’s leather and craftsmanship, but this new style doesn’t really get me excited or seem very stylish. I think they should stick with the Disco bag and slowly bump up the price, just like everyone else has been doing.
I was actually browsing the Gucci website last week, and I came across this bag. I’m really happy that you’ve done a review on it. I already own the original black Disco bag, which I absolutely adore. Personally, I’m not a fan of the horizontal stitching, but I can understand why some people might like it. What really surprised me, though, was the price! I remember paying a little over $900 for my Disco bag a few years ago.
Happy I never sold my black Disco.
The new Blondie definitely has a more sophisticated look compared to the Soho.
