Balenciaga Rodeo Bag: A Complete Guide and Replica Review

About four months ago, I was on a family trip to Las Vegas and came across the Balenciaga Rodeo bag in a boutique, it totally caught my eye.

I didn’t grab it right then because I’ve seen some really good quality leather replicas out there (like the LV backpack replica I got for my husband a few months back).

DESIGN AND FEATURES OF Balenciaga Rodeo

The Rodeo bag is a great bag all by itself, mixing style with simplicity and function. You can add some accessories/charms to make it unique, or just wear it as it is.

It’s like a cross between a Kelly Retourne and a Fendi Peekaboo.

The bag comes with a long handle, so you can easily sling it over your shoulder. The top handle does not come off, but the shoulder strap does.

There is an inner turn lock and an outer turnlock with a circular turn key. This means you can actually wear this bag in two ways.

1. With the top flap over the circular turnkey and bag completely closed.
2. Or with the top flap over the inner turnlock with the outer body bag flap hanging out.

There are also snap buttons on the side so you can even expand the bag.

Once you wear it, the soft body and flap of the bag drape freely, giving you a stylish slouchy look.

Large

• Dimensions: L15,7 x H11,8 x W5,1 inch

The large size is perfect for anyone over 5’7″.
It’s great for events like fashion parties, music festivals, hitting the gym, or vacations where you need a lot of space.
The relaxed, oversized shape is really cool and trendy. It even looks good on men.

Medium

• Dimensions: L13,8 x H9,2 x W4,3 inch

The medium size works well for anyone over 5’5″.
It’s the perfect classic size for daily commuting.
It fits a 13-inch laptop easily, and you can even squeeze in a 14-inch laptop by stretching the sides a bit.
It’s ideal for the confident, trendy urban woman.

Small

• Dimensions: L11,4 x H7,9 x W3,9 inch

The small size suits women of all heights, and it’s a choice you won’t regret.
It easily holds essentials like an iPad and a water bottle. Plus, it’s got a really strong, stylish look.

Mini

• Dimensions: L9 x H3,9 x W3,3 inch

The mini size looks really cute and charming, but the only downside is that it lacks a bit of the Rodeo’s spirit.
It doesn’t have a front compartment like the Small size does, and the handle can only be carried by hand.

For the Balenciaga Rodeo bag, the Small size can fit all your daily essentials, and the Medium size is more than enough.

Personally, I prefer the Medium size.

There are two buttons per side for the two compartments of the bag (so a total of 4 snap buttons). You can choose to keep one or two closed or open, and it really expands the capacity when fully opened up, kind of like an accordion.

I love the big space inside the compartments, especially when the snap buttons are opened up.

• The interior has two large pockets inside with a zipped pocket on the interior along the back panel.
• On the back of the bag, there are also two large pockets that fit in any sized iPhone. Super handy.

Balenciaga Rodeo vs Hermes Kelly vs Fendi Peekaboo

Before the Balenciaga Rodeo was released, a lot of people were already trying to decide between the Kelly and the Fendi Peekaboo.

These three bags do look a bit similar at first glance, haha. So, how should you choose?

Style

The Rodeo bag has a really modern and laid-back feel. 

The Kelly and Peekaboo, on the other hand, are a bit more formal. Especially Kelly, classic and elegant.

Options

All three bags come in various sizes. But the Kelly and Peekaboo offer more choices in materials and colors.

Carrying Ways

All three bags have a handle and a long shoulder strap (only the Peekaboo’s shoulder strap is adjustable), so you can wear them crossbody or carry them by hand.

However, the handle on the Rodeo is also designed to be comfortable on the shoulder (except for the Mini size).

Capacity Practicality

Both the Rodeo’s double buckle design and the Peekaboo’s dual opening setup cleverly split the handbag into two large compartments.

The Kelly, on the other hand, has a single large compartment.

When the sizes are similar, the Balenciaga Rodeo can hold more because of its soft leather and the fact that it can expand a bit.

Price Value

The Kelly is definitely much more expensive than the other two bags. But it holds its value really well and has a collectibility that the other two bags don’t match.

Comparing the Rodeo and the Peekaboo, the Rodeo is relatively a better deal.

Take the medium-sized black calfskin versions: the Rodeo goes for $4,290, while the Peekaboo is up at $5,800.

If you’re into the Peekaboo, looking into a preloved one could save you a bunch.

Balenciaga Rodeo Bag Price

Now let’s take a look at the prices of the Balenciaga Rodeo bag (in smooth calfskin without charm).

The Balenciaga Rodeo bag is priced in the mid-to-high range in the market. The cost is “reasonable” for its design, materials, and brand. Its versatility and unique style make it competitive in the luxury market.

Compared to similar styles from high-end brands like Hermès Kelly and Fendi Peekaboo, it offers a more modern and casual style option while maintaining a luxurious feel. The Celine Romy gives off this kind of feel too.

I think that’s why it was so popular right off the bat and sold out everywhere.

Balenciaga was never a brand that I was drawn to, but the Rodeo seems to cater to non-Balenciaga lovers.

It actually got me hooked enough to go check out the Replica Knockoff in a store. But honestly, thank goodness for replicas, because there’s no way I would spend over $4000 on this bag or brand!

This black medium replica Balenciaga Rodeo was purchased from LM.

QUALITY – 10/10

Exterior calfskin leather of this Rodeo bag is very soft and luxurious, definitely high tier and good quality. The top flap came with the corner creases, but that’s what the Replica Knockoff is like.

• It smells of real leather with a small grained texture and a glossy surface.

There was no weird chemical smell, even during unboxing.

• The top handle and straps are soft and pliable.

The interior lambskin leather is INCREDIBLE, it’s so soft that I’m a bit scared of scratching it, so I’ve been careful about what I put in the interior pockets.

The exterior leather feels tougher than the inside, and I know Balenciaga encourages owners to treat this bag with real life challenges and not to baby it at all.

I actually talked to a SA about this bag when I stopped by the Balenciaga store, and she said the whole idea is to give the bag a “lived-in” look. That works perfectly for me because I never like to baby bags.

• As for the hardware, both turn locks work well, good amount of pressure but not too stiff to be a nuisance.

ACCURACY – 9.8/10

My Rodeo purse measures 14″ x 9″ x 4.5″ which is very close to the Replica Knockoff (13.8″ x 9.2″ x 4.3″), pretty much nailed it.

• The exterior calfskin leather is smooth and matches the Replica Knockoff almost exactly.

I only got to see the small Rodeo in the store, but the leather is the same for the medium and small. I feel like the Replica Knockoff is slightly softer overall, but this one is super close and totally fine by me.

I’m very happy with the shape, the side pleats with snap buttons, and the overall slouchy feel of the bag. I also really appreciate how well the small details are done.

• The brass feet line up just like the Replica Knockoff Balenciaga Rodeo.

The stitching on the top handle, the details inside under the top flap, the logos, and the interior turnlock, all are repped very well.

• The hardware color is a non-shiny, aged gold, just like the authentic.
• The key holder leather and the split rings both have matching Balenciaga engravings.
• And the metal plates for the turnlocks are engraved with Balenciaga too.

Everything looks neat and clearly etched.

• The font is just as I remember from the store.
• Also, the gold logo and the blind stamped logos all look exactly right.

CONCLUSION

I love the slouchy chic look of this Rodeo bag and I really like how it’s iykyk, very low key and un-balenciaga like.

The practicality of it, the way it’s meant to be “used and lived in”, the functionality of the pockets and how the inner compartments are so large and spacious- this truly is meant to be a daily bag that you reach for again and again.

I also love the four gold toned feet on the bottom that give the leather extra protection and allow the bag to stand pretty securely.

I’ve worn this replica Balenciaga Rodeo a few times already and I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on it. The leather screams luxury. 

Also very happy with the price paid. I know I will be using this bag for a long time!

I am already thinking of all the kitschy charms I can put on this!!!

I think both versions of the bag look great. Adding some charms can make the bag more personalized and fun. 

But I wouldn’t recommend buying them directly from the Balenciaga site.

Yeah, the charms are awesome but they don’t cost a lot to make. Can you believe the same size bag with charms is over a thousand dollars more expensive compared to the one without charms?

I think that’s pretty crazy. With that extra thousand, you could buy enough charms on Amazon to fill a whole room.

2. Is the croc version of the Balenciaga Rodeo bag better?

The croc-embossed version should hold up better against scratches than the smooth leather one. But I’ve heard it’s a lot stiffer than the smooth leather.

3. Is the shoulder strap on the Balenciaga Rodeo adjustable?

The shoulder strap is not adjustable, but you can do it with a knot as Balenciaga suggests.

Or you could switch it out with a different strap since it’s detachable.

4. Is the Balenciaga Rodeo bag heavy?

It’s a full leather bag, so it’s definitely a bit heavier than a canvas bag.

But since my Rodeo bag is a Medium size, I feel okay for everyday use. It does get heavy if I put a laptop in it. The large size would probably be even heavier.
