So last year (I think in March/April), I saw the new 2024 Gucci Jackie Bag when I was in France. It is a beautiful bag. Especially in red.
But I’m feeling a little better about having a 2020 Jackie replica because those lobster claw closures are really reminding me of Rebecca Minkoff.
Nothing wrong with it, but you’d hope that with the price point, you’d be getting something nicer. (Luckily the the piston is also an option again.)
I got this gorgeous black Gucci Jackie last May, and after using it for almost a year I have a really good grasp on the quality of this bag.
History of the Gucci Jackie 1961
There’s no doubt about the status and popularity of the Gucci Jackie Bag. As stated on Gucci’s website, “The Jackie 1961 joins the Dionysus, the Marmont, and the Horsebit 1955 as a Beloved Line of the House.”
One of the main reasons why this bag is well-loved is because it’s a bag that has history, it has a story behind it.
As the name suggests, the bag was first introduced in 1961. Originally, the bag was called the Constance.
It’s renamed “the Jackie” after Jackie Kennedy who carried in in the early 1960’s as First Lady and all around style icon.
Bags in general had a different composition and design 60+ years ago. Patent leather was big back then, so you also see the more stiffer leather as a result.
Even though it’s a reissue, it’s true to the original 1961 bag and is not going to be the same construction or slouchy soft leather as what we expect in the 21st century.
If you keep that in mind it’s a classic elegant bag. But if retro isn’t your thing… you could question it compared to today’s bags.

Gucci Jackie Features
As I said, it’s a 2020 Jackie. Btw, I got this Black Gucci Jackie from Designer Discreet.
- I will say the biggest feature of the Gucci Jackie is its Piston lock.
Without the lock, this bag would be a little dull, so it is really what gives it a pop, without making the bag the main event.
- The lining is this “Microfiber lining with a suede-like finish”.
- Inside, it has an open pocket and a zip pocket.
- Also comes with a long leather strap so you can wear the bag as a crossbody.
Personally I just use it as a shoulder bag, I think it looks the best that way.
- The Small size is 10.8″W x 7.5″H x 1.6″D (W27.5cm x H19cm x D4cm).
- The Gucci Jackie also has Mini and Medium sizes, and they also released this Super Mini size, so you have 4 options.
The new 2024 “upgraded version” has a leather lining and the strap becomes this green and red Web strap. And has just one zip pocket inside.

Quality + wear tear 9.5/10
The shape of the bag has held up over months of constant use and it still looks brand new!
- The leather is soft and so beautifully shiny.
- The handle is comfortable and sturdy.
- The stitching looks even without any damage or fraying.
- The inner suede lining feels nice and soft.
The Piston lock hardware feels substantial and weighty, but I can definitely see it getting hairline scratches over time.
The biggest issue I noticed was the slight wrinkling, they were just hard to see in the photos. The Replica Knockoff has the same issue.
So does the Gucci Jackie scratch easily?
As of now, I haven’t found any large scratches. Still, I would say the smooth leather is sensible for scratches, the closure can sometimes scratch the bag itself.
I like the look of smooth leather better, but if this is a problem for you, you can always choose the grained leather.
Accuracy 9.8/10
The bag looks and feels identical to the authentic. I tried on the Jackie Bag at Gucci and it feels and looks the same as my replica.
- The shape is perfect. Dimensions are correct as well.
- The leather has the same texture, the sheen looks just right.
- Hardware has the same feel. The closure is spot on.
- The inside logo stamp looked the same.

While in store, the SA brought out the brown for us to look at since they did not have the small black in store.

Can’t believe it’s been a year now and it still looks brand new, even though I’m not as careful with it as I should be!
I’ve brought it around very discerning eyes, and no one has ever even questioned if it’s real or not. Overall, I could not be happier, and honestly, I would love to get this in other colors too!

what fits Gucci Jackie Small
The bag is pretty narrow, so it won’t hold a ton, but it can definitely handle all your daily essentials.
I’ve got the small Jackie, but actually, many people think of the small Jackie as more of a medium-size bag, and the medium Jackie feels more like a large size.
Whether it’s capacity or style, I think the Gucci Jackie is a great everyday bag.
So with my Jackie 1961 small shoulder bag, I can fit:
- My phone
- My keys
- A small wallet
- An AirPods
- My sunglasses
- Lipstick and lip balm
This bag is pretty flat, and it can get even flatter when it’s empty.
I feel like it’s a good choice for stuffing in your suitcase when you’re heading out on a trip. (Just remember to slip it into a dust bag to avoid any scratches.)
Speaking of Gucci bags that are great for travel, I remember the Savoy Duffle Bag and the Ophidia GG Tote that I bought before, they are also nice.
Pros and Cons of Gucci Jackie 1961
Pros
- Just look at her, it’s beautiful, stylish, and a classic bag.
- You can wear it in a bunch of ways.
- A nice everyday bag, big enough for all your daily essentials.
- Very lightweight and comfortable to carry.
Cons
- The leather is stiff, so the strap tends to slip off your shoulder.
- Light wrinkles will appear.
- It’s actually more like an open-top bag even with the closure, things can fall out.
- Attaching the longer strap is also a bit of a struggle.
I did notice the SA in store also struggled with the strap but she noted it should soften a bit with use.
Conclusion Alternatives
It really is a beautiful bag and I love its size and versatility. It actually holds more than I expected which is a plus.
I can’t recommend it enough, it’s honestly such an elegant bag and everyone who sees it loves it!!
And there are also so many vintage Jackie bags out there with a more affordable price. I do miss the more creative variety of Jackies we had in the past.
One day I’d like to find a vintage Gucci Jackie. I like it when pieces have stories and it’s fun imagining who carried a vintage piece when it was brand new.
