The Ultimate Hermes Oran Sandals Review: Are They Really Worth the Price?

This article will give you the most thorough and comprehensive Hermes Oran Sandals Review.

Are they really worth the $$$ you pay for them?

Not all bags qualify as classic and iconic, like Chanel’s CF, LV’s Neverfull, and Hermès’ Birkin.

The same goes for luxury footwear. If we’re talking about timeless iconic sandals, Hermès Oran sandals definitely make the list.

They’ve been around for 25 years (first launched in 1997). They kinda come and go in terms of being in the “spotlight”, but they’re a classic Hermès piece, so they’re not going anywhere.

Oran sandals are the first choice for many when it comes to the H game (It’s a smart move to build a relationship with your SA and you don’t end up with something useless like a $960 log carrier).

People love these sandals because they’re stylish and elegant, and they show off Hermès’ craftsmanship and quality.

But since they are quite expensive (cost around $800), it’s a good idea to think about whether they’re worth it. This article will help you decide if these sandals are a smart buy.

For people who don’t want to spend that much or want to try different styles, replica sandals can be tempting.

So, I got a pair of what are supposed to be the best copies to compare them with the real ones.

Let’s see how good or bad they really are.

Details of Hermès Oran Sandals

The Hermès Oran is a summer must-have. They’re light weight and stylish. They go with EVERYTHING, I love to have them as a staple summer sandal.

If you don’t know Orans, they’re Hermes’ most classic sandals. You can easily recognize them by the iconic “H” cut-out design.

Materials

The Hermès Oran sandals are made from a variety of high-quality materials.

People who buy Oran sandals usually go for Calfskin and Epsom.

Calfskin is more comfortable than Epsom, but truth be told even with with Calfskin they need breaking in, just not as badly as the Epsom.

Here are some of the most common materials:

1. Smooth Calfskin Leather

  • most common
  • soft and durable
2. Epsom Leather

  • fine grain
  • durable and easy to maintain
  • suitable for everyday wear
3. Lizard Leather

  • finely textured
  • smooth and glossy finish
4. Suede

  • soft and comfortable
  • unique velvety texture
  • ideal for fall and winter wear
5. Crocodile Leather

  • luxurious feel
  • unique texture
  • very expensive
  • highly valued as a collectible
6. Metallic Leather

  • metallic sheen
  • great for parties
7. Canvas

  • lightweight and breathable
  • perfect for summer wear

8. Denim

  • casual, stylish look
  • versatile for various occasions.

9. Suede + Crystal Embellishments

  • combine the softness of suede with the sparkle of crystal decorations
  • a flashy statement to your look

This article mainly focuses on the calfskin version I bought, as it’s the most popular material.

The H sandals have high-end calfskin on top, a soft and fine lambskin inside, and they’re finished with a leather sole.

Which color? Any recommendations?

Hermes offers calfskin in 31 colors now, with all sorts of vibrant summer colors like red, yellow, blue, and green.

But the most popular are still the neutrals—black, gold, and white—because they go with everything. I went straight for gold (brown).

If you’re worried that black is too common or white gets dirty easily, gold is a safe choice.

It matches with anything and adds a little luxury and style to your outfit. It’s a classic yet fashionable choice.

How to choose the right size?

My size: My foot length is 24cm, I wear a European size 39. My forefoot is slightly wide, but the arch of my foot isn’t particularly high or thick.

Hermès sandal recommendation: If you’re usually a size 39, just go for that size. Going for a 39.5 is the safest choice. Size 40 seems okay in length, but the H strap on top is too loose, which means they slip off when you walk.

Also, here are some general tips:

Official size chart: Visit the Hermès website and refer to their size chart to choose the right size based on your foot length.

Measure your foot length: Measure your foot by drawing an outline on a piece of paper. You can let them know how many cm your foot is. (Doing it in the afternoon or evening seems to give you more accurate results.)

Sizing advice: If you’re between sizes, it’s usually best to size up.

Try-on feedback: Read reviews from other buyers to see their size choices and wearing experiences.

In all honesty, you are going to have to do some thorough research on this one!

Orans are the most often purchased shoes and, with that, the shoe that receives the widest variance in quality and fit.

There seems to be no “one size fits all” approach to Orans so run a search, filter by comments and try to read as much as you can and match the user comments with your foot type.

The easiest way is to go to the store and try them on. That’s what I did, and it helped me find the perfect fit, which made me feel a lot better about my purchase.

Hermès Oran Sandals: Pros, Cons, and Wearing Experience

Pros

Classic Look: The unique H-shaped strap is simple and stylish, perfect for any occasion.

Lots of Options: Comes in a bunch of colors, from classic neutrals to bright summer shades, so they’re easy to match with any outfit.

Top Quality: Hermès’ great craftsmanship and high-quality materials make these sandals durable and long-lasting.

Brand Prestige: Since it’s Hermes, it’s more than just a fashion choice, it’s also a status symbol.

Cons

Size Issues: Depending on your foot type, you might need to spend some time figuring out which size fits you best.

Maintenance: The high-quality leather needs regular care to stay looking good, especially in humid or harsh weather.

Noisy Soles: The Hermes Oran sandals are known for making a really loud noise when walking in them unfortunately.

Hard Soles: They can make your feet hurt if you wear them for too long.

Blisters: Some people have had issues with these sandals causing blisters.

Wearing Experience

One sunny afternoon, I decided to wear my Oran sandals for a day out.

I took my cat for a bath, went shopping for an hour, picked up my cat, and then went out for dinner—a total of about 5-6 hours.

Since my feet sweat easily and are a bit flat, the Hermès sliders made my feet feel really tired, painful, and slippery.

The soles are hard and flat, so it’s not something you’d want to wear for a lot of walking.

They also make very loud noise especially when I walk upstairs or downstairs. One time, my husband laughed and said, “Are you wearing clogs?”

In the end, I decided to save these sandals for special occasions. Even though they look great and have that brand prestige, they’re just not comfy enough to wear all day.

In terms of comfort, it took a few wears with blisters before my feet got used to them so def not the most comfortable shoe for starting out.

Update: As I’ve worn them more, they don’t hurt my feet as much anymore, but weirdly, they still sometimes do. Okay, maybe it’s just my feet. Sigh.

Hermes Oran Sandals: One Year Wear Tear + Real vs. Fake Comparison

Hermes Oran Sandals are super pretty and go with everything. Even though they’re not that comfy for me, maybe I should’ve gone a size up.

Considering how pricey they are and their practicality, I’ve decided to stop at this pair.

The real ones we’re comparing to are the same pair as before, and you can see they’ve worn down a lot over the year.

I’ve bought a lot of replica bags, but only two pairs of replica shoes so far.

One day, I got an email from a reader who was really happy with the Hermes Oran Sandals dupe she bought from the sellers I recommended.

Her glowing feedback got me curious, so I decided to buy a pair to compare with my Replica Knockoff ones.

Quality – 10/10

There seems to be some kind of oil on the soles, which makes them a bit slippery on the feet (maybe just a leather conditioner, I have no idea) but it seems to be wearing off at this point.

I really have no complaints about the quality!

The construction is great, leather is great and it is not dry, it has a very faint fufu smell, but gone very soon.

Accuracy – 9.8/10

Length: I lined up the sandals so you can see that the Hermes sandals dupe (size 40) is a slightly tiny little bit longer in length than the Replica Knockoff (39). The size the seller recommended was actually pretty accurate.

Footbed: The length, shape, and thickness of the footbed (the “cushion”) are exactly the same.

Stamping: The stamping on both the soles and insoles is a little different than the ones on auth. -0.2pt

Apart from that, there aren’t any big differences between the Hermes sandals dupe and the real ones.

The sole and the H strap are really accurate in terms of shape and thickness. The stitching is great too.

Overall, I think it’s impossible to call the sandals out while you’re wearing them.

Satisfaction – 10/10

10/10. Maybe I’m just easily satisfied, I don’t know lol.

For this price, I obviously wasn’t expecting perfection, but I’m impressed with my purchases.

And I definitely think at this price point it was a steal for the quality of the Hermes sandals dupe. I’m happy and I think they’re a perfect summer sandal.

How much do Hermes Oran Sandals cost?

I bought the Replica Knockoff in Malaysia last year for under $600. As of today (July 27, 2024), the official price is $760.

The replica cost me $215, and although there was initially a $49 shipping fee, I bought a few bags and a replica Tiffany jewelry piece, so the seller waived the shipping.

Given the price difference between the two pairs of sandals, I’d say I got a great deal, haha.

Solutions for Uncomfortable Hermès Sandals

  • Wear them with thin socks around the house to break them in.
  • Use Body Glide on your feet to avoid friction.
  • Use moleskin on the worst spots.

But if they are that bad is probably the fit of the shoes the main problem.

Tips for maintaining leather soles and preventing slips

Use Sole Protector: I like to use sole protectors. They’re thin but sturdy, non-slip, come in lots of colors and you can also buy them on Amazon.

Regular Maintenance: Take them to a cobbler regularly for cleaning and timely repairs of any damage.

Avoid Moisture: Try to avoid wearing them on rainy days, since moisture can speed up the damage to the leather.

Final Thoughts: Are Hermès Oran Sandals worth buying?

I love my Oran Sandals, they’re simple (still cute) and easy to slip on and off. This isn’t my first lux shoes, and if I hadn’t found out about replicas, I’d say they’re worth it.

But now, things have changed.

I couldn’t justify spending around 800 USD for that kind of wear and tear anymore lol. Sure, I could take them to a cobbler for repairs, but that’s an extra expense.

Overall, Replica Knockoff is nice but I’m over paying those prices. Shoes are going on the ground and will have much more wear/tear than purses.

If you’re looking for a pair of iconic, classic shoes, then they’re perfect for you.

But if you want all that and also want to save $$$, definitely go for replicas!

Overall, people have mixed opinions on these sandals. How do you like your Oran Sandals? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are Hermes Oran sandals comfortable?

Hermès Oran sandals emphasize style and aesthetics in their design, but some people have said they get uncomfortable and cause blisters after wearing them for a long time because the soles are pretty hard.

2. Do Hermes Oran sandals run true to size?

If you have narrow feet, Hermès Oran sandals fit true to size. If your feet are wide, it’s a good idea to go half a size to a full size up.

3. How to clean Hermes Oran sandals?

Gently wipe the surface of the sandals with a soft cloth (like an alcohol-free wet wipe) and a specialized leather cleaner. Avoid washing them with water directly to prevent damaging the leather.

4. Do Oran sandals stretch out?

The leather will slightly loosen over time but won’t significantly change shape. This natural loosening process can improve comfort when wearing them.

5. Do Hermes Oran sandals have heels?

If you’re not into flats, there’s a high-heeled version of the Hermès Oran sandals called the Oasis sandal.

I bought the real ones for my bday last yaar, exactly the ones you took (gold, size 39 calfskin) after dreaming of them for 6+ years… Can’t wear them without getting blisters for more than 30 minutes. I say get the fake ones (even if 200$ seems a little high for a 600€ shoe)…

Yeah, and now it costs around 800 dollars to buy them in the US. If I had bought the replica first, I probably wouldn’t have considered getting the real ones.
